Holidays in April 2024

In the United States, April is National Poetry Month. On Monday, April 8, 2024 a total solar eclipse will be visible from Mexico, the United States and Canada. Facts About April

Today we know April to be the fourth month of the year, but it once was the second month in the early Roman calendar. The Romans are also responsible for April’s Latin name, Aprilis. It’s uncertain whether the name comes from the Latin verb aperire, “to open” (flowers blooming) or from the ancient Greek goddess, Aphrodite.

Although it can be a rainy, April is the second month of spring. The flowers and trees begin to bloom (cherry blossom season), animals and insects start their activities while the sky is clearer.

The diamond is April’s birthstone. Apart from being rare, diamonds are also the world’s most popular gemstones. They can be colorless or have a variety of colors from yellow and brown to vivid red, orange, pink, green or blue. In some cultures diamonds are associated with life, love, sincerity or innocence.

One of April’s birth flowers is the daisy. Daisies have many symbolic meanings from innocence and purity to new beginnings. The other birth flower of April is the sweet pea. Sweet peas are beautiful flowers symbolizing blissful pleasure, but are also associated with goodbyes.
