There is only one federal holiday in October - Columbus Day, celebrated on Monday, October 9. Although not an official holiday, Halloween is a popular celebration observed on Tuesday, October 31.

Nowadays, October is known to be the 10th month of the calendar. As with most months, this wasn’t always true. In the early Roman calendar, October used to be the eighth month, after all its name comes from the Latin word "ôctō" (which means eight).

I think it can be said that October is the spookiest month of the year. That has to do with the fact that Halloween is celebrated on the last day of October which in 2023 is a Tuesday.

October has two birthstones, the tourmaline and opal. Tourmaline is a gemstone that comes in a variety of colors promoting self-confidence and inspiring bravery. Opal, on the other hand, is known for enhancing imagination and creativity.

The Calendula is October’s birth flower. Calendulas are daisy-like, bright orange and yellow flowers that can be either annual or perennial. It is believed that the calendula flowers are associated protection and prophecy.
